Dear Friends,
This year has seen a heartbreaking escalation in the longstanding border dispute between Thailand and Cambodia, centered on the ancient Preah Vihear temple area. An 11th-century Khmer temple perched atop the Dangrek escarpment, Preah Vihear was awarded to Cambodia by the International Court of Justice in 1962, though surrounding land remains contested. Tensions flared into intense fighting in July 2025, followed by a fragile ceasefire; sadly, clashes resumed in December, with airstrikes, artillery exchanges, and significant civilian hardship in northern Cambodia.
Many survivors of past traumas, such as the Khmer Rouge era, are facing renewed suffering amid widespread displacement and damage to villages, schools, and infrastructure.
Our churches in Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, and Oddar Meanchey provinces—along with more than 500 church members and their families—have been directly impacted. Many have become displaced within their own country and are in urgent need of food and shelter.
We humbly ask for your prayers and, if possible, financial support to aid our brothers and sisters in northwest Cambodia during this crisis.
Thank you for your compassion and support for the Cambodian Christian Church.
In Christ,
Christopher LaPel
